Department: Geriatric & Respiratory Care Unit - 8332
The Stroke Medical Unit is a 40-bed unit that specializes in the care of geriatric patients and offers an interdisciplinary approach to respiratory care. The Stroke Medical Unit is a designated stroke unit. Staff members must utilize strong organizational and leadership skills to assess patient status, implement clinical nursing interventions to modify symptoms, and develop and implement patient care plans to enhance and improve outcomes. Special training on how to care for patients on vents and how to respond to different alarms on the unit is required. Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Unit Manager and Unit charge nurse, the Licensed Practical Nurse utilizes a general understanding of the principles of nursing and basic physical assessment skills in the development of and implementation of individualized nursing care plans to ensure that the needs of the residents are met; assists in the orientation of the supervision of nursing personnel; and attends to the daily operations of the unit on a per shift, unit level, and assumes responsibilities of a leadership role as needed. Requirements: Formal working knowledge; equivalent to an Associate's degree (2 years college); requires knowledge of a specialized field; Less than 1 year experience; License for Practical Nursing required; Cerner; Healthstream; Nursing Process skills based on MD Nurse Practice Act; Critical thinking skills; Medical equipment; Accucheck; EKG Machine, Specialty Bed Operation; Basic computer skills; Synquest; IV Pump; Phillips Monitoring System; Demonstrates the ability to follow verbal instructions; Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
