The Mother-Baby Unit has 27 adult beds and 35 full-term nursery bassinets. Each nurse has three mother-baby couplets assigned to his or her care. In addition to labor and delivery, nurses on the Mother-Baby unit also provide care for expectant mothers who have pregnancy complications, postpartum readmissions, and some post-operative GYN surgical patients. All the rooms on this unit are private, with sleeping accommodations for one adult visitor of the patient's choice. Staff members of this unit promote family bonding in addition to providing care. Nurses on this unit must have strong communication skills, and also be compassionate, energetic and committed to quality care and patient satisfaction.
As a member of the patient care team, the RNI provides safe, age-appropriate patient care and functions as an advisor and, resource for patients and their families.
