The Intermediate Care Unit Assistant Nurse Manager is a supportive role to the Nurse Manager. This role has 24/7 accountability with a focus on improving and sustaining positive patient outcomes, the patient experience, facilitating patient throughput, staff engagement, operations and change management. In addition, it will be a requirement for this individual to maintain basic nursing skills as required by the his/her specialty. The individual must demonstrate basic competence in clinical, ethical and legal aspects surrounding the provision of patient care. In the absence of the Nurse Manager, the Assistant Nurse Manager will assume full oversight and responsibilities for the IMC. Collaborates with nursing and other organizational leaders on initiatives to achieve and sustain HCHAPS and Press Ganey results that reflect the patient experience.
The Intermediate Care Unit is a 36 bed step-down unit which takes care of patients needing closer and in-depth telemetry monitoring. Each room is equipped with hemodynamic monitors and is capable of cardiac telemetry and continuous pulse oximetry for stable and unstable patients. We take care of a wide variety of adult patients with neurologic, respiratory, cardiac, renal, gastrointestinal, genitourinary as well as endocrine and gynecologic conditions. We also provide care for trauma, post-surgical, and behavioral patients. Our nurses are trained in a fast paced environment and are ACLS, Trauma, and Stroke certified to be able to provide care for the patient population. While IMC is critical and fast paced, teamwork is key to success. Our staff is very supportive and helps in nurturing new RN graduates and new to specialty nurses. We also practice shared governance where RN's involvement is paramount. We also strive to uphold Magnet principles in order to provide the best care for our patients.
Requirements: Basic professional knowledge equivalent to a Bachelor's degree, working knowledge of theory and practice within a specialized field, ADN required, BSN preferred, national certification in area of specialty required, must have at least 1 year of formal nursing leadership experience in area of specialty and must include formal supervision, Maryland Registered Nurse License, American Heart Association CPR Certification, ALCS required, must be a member of a professional organization, at least 1-3 years of RN experience, standard office equipment, Microsoft Office Suite, basic computer skills, Cerner, Healthstream, medical terminology, nursing process skills based on MD Nurse Practice Act, critical thinking skills, medical equipment, exerts up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently to move objects, demonstrates the ability to follow verbal instructions and communicate effectively verbally and in writing, must have strong IMC level care experience, must be willing to work some off shifts of 7p-7a or 11p-7a to get interaction with the entire team.
