Northwest Hospital's main operating room (Main OR) provides innovative surgical services on both inpatient and outpatients. The main surgical suite consists of a new exquisite pre- and post-operative area, five operating rooms, one Cysto suite and a new endoscopy suite. The main operating room cares for approximately 480 surgical patients a month. Patients of surgical services may require care following general or orthopedic, neurologic, urologic, gynecologic, thoracic, vascular, podiatric, cosmetic procedures. Surgical service employees provide excellent care to their patients and follow Association of PeriOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) and American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nursing Practice (ASPAN) standards of care. Surgical staff must utilize strong organizational and leadership skills to assess patient status, implement clinical nursing interventions to modify symptoms. Position Summary: Functions under the supervision of the Registered Nurse in a cooperative effort with the health care team to assist in providing a variety of patient care related duties in assigned area of surgical services. Transports the following, including but not limited to: Perioperative patients, blood and blood products, supplies, linens, and specimens in a safe and proper manner. Requirements: Entry level knowledge; basic employment skills; High School diploma: GED equivalent or High School certificate. 1-3 years experience. Basic computer skills; Healthstream; Medical terminology; Critical thinking skills; Medical equipment. American Heart Association CPR Certification; Endoscopy processing certification required within six (6) months; CNA/GNA preferred. Demonstrates the ability to follow verbal instructions, as well as the ability to communicate effectively both written and orally.
