Northwest Hospital's main operating room (Main OR) provides innovative surgical services on both inpatient and outpatients. The main surgical suite consists of a new exquisite pre- and post-operative area, five operating rooms, one Cysto suite and a new endoscopy suite. The main operating room cares for approximately 480 surgical patients a month. Patients of surgical services may require care following general or orthopedic, neurologic, urologic, gynecologic, thoracic, vascular, podiatric, cosmetic procedures. Surgical service employees provide excellent care to their patients and follow Association of Peri-Operative Registered Nurses (AORN) and American Society of Peri-Anesthesia Nursing Practice (ASPAN) standards of care. Surgical staff must utilize strong organizational and leadership skills to assess patient status, implement clinical nursing interventions to modify symptoms.
Description: Perioperative Registered Nurse individualizes plans of care to coordinate and deliver safe and age-appropriate care to patients undergoing operative and other invasive procedures. Also functions as an advisor, resource, preceptor, and leader for other members of the patient care team.
Requirements: Formal working knowledge; equivalent to an Associate's degree (2 years college); requires knowledge of a specialized field. Bachelor's of Nursing preferred. Must be fluent with Microsoft Office Suite, basic computer skills, Cerner, Synquest, standard office equipment, medical terminology, nursing process skills based on MD Nurse Practice Act, critical thinking skills, and medical equipment. BLS certification; CNOR preferred; ACLS-excludes Acute Care and OR within 1 year; Maryland Registered Nurse License; American Heart Association CPR Certification; PALS-ED and PACU, only. Must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and must be able to follow verbal instructions. Four 10 hours shifts; 1pm- 11pm.
